BOOK COVER REDESIGN (THE WAY I USED TO BE)
SUMMARY :
“The Way I Used To Be” is a story of a young woman making her way through high school as she struggles with a devastating experience with someone close to the family. She is among the vast majority who experiences sexual assault by someone they are familiar with. This is contrary to the long-standing myths about “stranger danger” and the threats that these crimes are committed by people that the victims do not know. The reality is that in over 90 percent of childhood sexual assault cases, the child knew their offender. This is evident in Eden’s story as she had to endure seeing her offender the very next morning and again for years to come.

BREAKDOWN OF THE SYBOLISM USED IN THIS DESIGN:-

Autumn Season: The choice of the autumn season for the cover design is symbolic. Autumn is a season of change, when leaves fall from the trees, symbolizing the natural cycle of life. It's a time of transition and letting go.

Leaves Falling: The falling leaves on the cover symbolize the trauma and pain that the protagonist, Eden, has experienced in the past. Like the leaves, these difficult emotions and experiences have fallen from her, but they still impact her life.

The Tree: The tree on the cover represents Eden. Despite the trauma she has endured, she stands tall and strong, just like a tree that remains rooted even as its leaves fall. This symbolizes Eden's inner strength and resilience.

The Girl: The girl signifies Eden's determination to carry on and try to lead a "normal" life. She faces her challenges with courage and determination, just as the tree remains strong despite the changing seasons.

Irrespective of Challenges: The cover design conveys the idea that, much like the tree enduring the autumn season, Eden strives to face her challenges and move forward in life. It suggests that she is resilient and determined to overcome her past trauma.

In summary, the book cover design uses the autumn season and the imagery of a tree and a girl to symbolize the themes of resilience, healing, and the strength to face difficult challenges in the aftermath of trauma, which are central to the story of "The Way I Used to Be."
